Message from Our Founder

Dear Visitors,

Welcome to the official website of The Mandate Health Empowerment Initiative (MHEI). As the Founder and President of this dedicated organization, it is my distinct pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you. Your presence here signifies a shared commitment to advancing mental health in Nigeria, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

The Mandate Health Empowerment Initiative is a mental health-focused non-governmental organization committed to improving mental health support across Nigeria. Our comprehensive approach encompasses advocacy, training, policymaking campaigns, sensitization, and psychosocial support with Our dear team of Management, Staff and over 500 volunteers from across 15 State Chapters in Nigeria. Our focus areas include:

  • Mental Health Reforms and Care: Championing comprehensive reforms in mental health policies and ensuring access to quality mental health care for all.
  • Maternal and Child Mental Health: Providing specialized support to mothers and children to ensure they receive the mental health care they need from pregnancy through early childhood.
  • Youth Mental Wellbeing: Addressing the unique mental health challenges faced by young people and promoting their overall wellbeing.
  • Drugs and Psychoactive Substance Use: Educating communities about substance use and abuse, and implementing prevention and intervention programs.
  • Suicide Prevention: Developing and implementing strategies to reduce the incidence of suicide and offering critical support to individuals in crisis, also leading strategic advocacy on attempted suicide decriminalization.
  • Protection of People with Mental Disorders: Advocating for the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of individuals living with mental health conditions, ensuring they receive the care and respect they deserve.

Our mission at MHEI is to enhance mental health support across Nigeria by promoting understanding, reducing stigma, and providing practical support and services. We believe that mental health is a fundamental human right and that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care.

Our organization engages in a wide range of activities designed to improve mental health outcomes, including:

  • Advocacy: Influencing public policy to ensure mental health is prioritized at all levels of government.
  • Training: Equipping healthcare providers, educators, and community leaders with the knowledge and skills to address mental health issues effectively.
  • Campaigns: Raising awareness, educating the public, and fostering a supportive environment for individuals with mental health conditions.
  • Sensitization Programs: Conducting workshops, seminars, and community outreach programs to educate people about mental health and reduce stigma.
  • Psychosocial Support: Providing counseling, support groups, crisis intervention, and other services to assist individuals and families facing mental health challenges.

We are proud of the impact we have made so far. Through our advocacy, training programs, and outreach efforts, we have reached countless individuals, provided critical support to mental health policies and road maps, and influenced policy changes that benefit our nation particularly the National Mental Health ACT 2021 passage. Our work is driven by a passion for change and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by mental health issues.
